Aw man, what a bummer.
Turns out that rumors of former Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth appearing with a five piece band at the Mill in Iowa City on Nov. 22 are just that — rumors.
“It is not happening,” Mill talent booker Samuel Locke-Ward told CorridorBUZZ.com Thursday morning. “It was a rumor. We were contacted by someone who was trying to scam us. I’m super bummed about it. It was a dude being criminal pretending to be an agent.”
The Mill’s Facebook page, which has more than a 1,000 fans, posted on its wall at 5:05 p.m. yesterday: “Diamond Dave will be playing the hits of Van Halen and DLR solo w/ 5 piece band!! For Real! Tix available soon!”
Following a half-dozen skeptical comments from Facebook friends, the venue posted again a short time later: “THE David Lee Roth of VanHalen fame! Special one time small club show!”
But sadly, none of that is true, and the errant postings have since been deleted.
Locke-Ward said he was looking further into the matter Thursday morning but owned up to his mistake and seemed to have a sense of humor about it.
His latest posting on the venue's Facebook wall: "David Lee Roth show was a scam. We were contacted by a man pretending to be mgmt. I am very stoopid.-SLW"
Disappointed fans are advised to console themselves with the “David Lee Roth Runnin’ With the Devil Soundboard” here.
