This year a new set of awards will recognize creativity and excellence in the films and videos that are shown during the 2008 festival, says Mary Duncan, SOTA’s executive director.
In 2007, first and second place awards were given in each of seven categories: documentary short form, documentary long form, narrative short form, narrative long form, student, script and animation. Those awards will be given out again as well as several new awards. The first place winner in each of the original seven categories will receive a cash prize. Here is the list of awards that will be given:
• Narrative, long form -- First place, Second place, Best comedy, Best drama
• Narrative, short form -- First place, Second place, Best comedy, Best drama, Best short-short (under 10 min)

“We received so many incredible entries for the festival in 2007 that we want to recognize as many films and videos as possible,” says festival co-director Mary Blackwood. “Independent filmmakers put heart and soul into their work and deserve acknowledgement. For 2008, we have fantastic in-kind media support and the festival will be promoted heavily and should bring in big audiences to enjoy these unique movies.”
