Singer-songwriter and Iowa City native Jason Reeves has signed a recording deal with Warner Bros. Records, the label announced today.

Reeves posted his debut album The Magnificent Adventures of Heartache (and Other Frightening Tales) on his MySpace page in August 2007. The deal with the Burbank, Ca. record label means a physical CD of the record will be made and widely distributed through retail outlets for the first time. A release date for the CD has not been announced.

Reeves, 24, was the top unsigned folk artist on MySpace for nine months and a fixture in the top five acoustic and top 20 overall unsigned artists categories, according to a press release from Warner Bros. Records.

He also was named one of the top indie singer-songwriters of 2007 by iTunes, which also dubbed his record one of its top folk albums of last year, giving it a five-star review after it debuted at number two on the iTunes folk chart.

Reeves has also collaborated with singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat, the first person he met after relocating to Los Angeles in March 2005, co-writing 10 tracks on Caillat’s platinum debut album Coco, including the singles “Bubbly” and “Realize,” the latter of which he also sings on, and its upcoming single “The Little Things.” Reeves’ songs have also been featured on the television shows “One Tree Hill” and “A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila.”

On Aug. 5, an updated version of Magnificent Adventures will be released digitally to all participating online retailers and will feature new mixes of four songs as well as a re-recorded version of “Gasoline.”

Reeves launched a national tour with a flood benefit show at the Englert Theatre on July 1 and will continue touring the western United States through the end of the month.
