07-02-2008 | Fine Arts
Humanities Iowa, the state affiliate to the National Endowment for the Humanities, has announced $20,000 in emergency flood relief to help three Cedar Rapids libraries and museums damaged during June’s record flooding.
The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, and the African-American Heritage Foundation will each receive $5,000, as will the Science Station.
"We worked hard to secure expedited review and relief from the National Endowment for the Humanities in order to safeguard invaluable historical documents detailing our cultural heritage,” says Christopher Rossi, executive director of Humanities Iowa. “We understand that this money is just beginning to meet needs. Nevertheless providing early relief can also provide critical relief as is so evident by the community’s collective response to this disaster.”
Humanities Iowa i scontinuing to review requests for up to $5,000 in flood assistance. For more information call ( 319) 335-4153 or visit the Humanities Iowa web site.
