An opening reception for ‘The Next Generation Juried High School Art Show” will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Chait Galleries Downtown in Iowa City.
The show will include 41 creative works of art submitted by 19 local young artists from six area high schools including those in Iowa City, Mt. Vernon, Solon and the Scattergood Friends School.
Students were asked to submit their work on disk accompanied by an artist statement and information on each piece. Professional artists juried the work and submissions were required to be exhibition ready.
Awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. and several cash prizes will be given, including a $500 best in show award.
The artwork is for sale and the show, which runs through May 30, is free and open to the public. The Chait Galleries Downtown is located at 218 E. Washington St.
