Grant Wood Studio to reopen July 12

The Grant Wood Studio and Visitor Center will reopen to the public on Saturday, July 12 from noon to 4 p.m. and admission will be free through Labor Day.

Visitors may take a guided tour through the original studio where American artist Grant Wood lived and worked from 1924 through 1934. Designed and built by Wood, the light-filled loft is where Wood painted "American Gothic" (1930) and many of the other works that made him internationally famous and gave rise to the Regionalist art movement. The studio is owned and operated by the nearby Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.

Group tours of the Studio will be available throughout the week by appointment after July 12 as well. For more information about scheduling a group tour, contact Andrea Jilovec, education coordinator at (319) 366-7503 ext. 203 or e-mail ajilovec@crma.org.

"There is progress on all fronts as the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art continues to recover from the effects of the Cedar River flooding and we are hoping to partially reopen the Museum around Labor Day," says museum spokeswoman Kristan Hellige in a news release.

Admission to the Museum will also be free for the first few weeks after it reopens, she says. Updates on progress and other information is available at the Museum's web site.
