Fiddler Al Murphy to play at Creekside Park gathering
07-29-2008 | Family
Fiddler Al Murphy will provide the musical entertainment Thursday for this week’s Party in the Park at Iowa City’s Creekside Park, 1858 Seventh Ave. Court.
The summertime leisure series, sponsored by the city’s Parks and Recreation and Neighborhood Services departments, is free and open to the public.
A dance and movement workshop begins at 6 p.m., followed by live music at 6:30 p.m. The gathering will also offer an animal mask craft project for all ages, carnival games, free ice cream and other forms of family-friendly entertainment.
“It’s a real laid-back event,” says Joyce Carroll, a program coordinator with the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department.
“It’s definitely got a family orientation to it, but there are many kinds of families. Many single people will attend as well. We have both people in the neighborhood and from outside the neighborhood who will also come. We have a lot of people who go to every one.”
The “Party in the Park” series continues Aug. 7 at Hunter’s Run Park with music by Nic Arp and Aug. 14 at Mercer Park with music by the Gilded Bats.
